Edible Date Palm. Zones 8-11 This palm needs full sun and is a slow grower which can reach up to 70 feet in height. An excellent palm for the landscape. It can take the cold down to 12 degrees once established. At least one of each sex (male and female) is needed to produce fruit. In colder regions, the plants grow well but rarely produce fruit. This is a very hardy palm that deserves more use in landscapes
